Today I will introduce you a very fast step-by-step, where I have realized a Sci-fi model completely in polystyrene, representing an icon of cartoons of the 80's: The
Big Shooter.
Who does not recognize the Big Shooter can change page! :D
For the construction, I will first start from the command cell. I''ll cut out a block of polystyrene:
Equipped with sandpaper, I'll proceed to smooth the muzzle until it gets the desired shape:
Now I'll add the two side elements that will support the component-launcher. Also, again with sandpaper, I'll realize the upper crescent:
I'll conclude the first part with the last block of polystyrene representing the back of the shuttle:
It's time to realize the component-launchers. I make them by assembling a series of cylinders of different diameters:
At this point I will chamfer the joint of the various cylinders, making the assembly of these conical. This is how the component-launchers look now:
I'll add the details with a flat-blade screwdriver:
The central partition of the control cell, I'll attach it with a superglue: this allows me to maintain its curved shape.
Now only the side wings and the central wing are missing. From polystyrene pieces about 5mm thick, again with sandpaper, I'll create the desired shapes:
The Big-shooter is now complete:
I'll use brushes and acrylics to paint it. The colors will be very bright, in order to reflect the
cartoon-like nature of the model (although later, when I insert it in the scenic
Apocalypto I will have to make it
real by lightening the colors and dirtying it with soils.
Here's the result obtained:
